Excipient Changes

Posted On 25-01-2012

As you may know, The Herb Booth sources herbs from a panel of suppliers in China who not only comply with the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration's stringent Good Manufacturing Practice requirements, but also with our own additional quality criteria.

While the majority of our suppliers use 100% maize derived maltdextrin as their excipient, our most recent import includes a small percentage of lactose in the excipient (5-15% of total excipient volume). Lactose is used in the excipient by some manufacturers as it is useful in increasing the water solubility of the granulated extracts.

You have probably read in our Terms and Conditions and on the rear label of our packaging that there may be some traces or derivates of milk products in our herbs, but as lactose has not been a component of the excipient of the herbs we have supplied to date, we wanted to bring it to your attention.

This low percentage of lactose is not normally enough to cause a reaction in someone with a mild sensitivity to milk products, but may produce some symptoms in a patient who is particularly intolerant to lactose.
